The Fearrington Community

Thirty years ago, when R.B. Fitch and his late wife, Jenny, began building Fearrington they set out to build a lifestyle, not just a place to live. The Fitches took scenic farm land and carefully created a unique community in the heartland of North Carolina - just minutes from Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

"RB and Jenny Fitch’s vision of a country community with lush English gardens and southern charm is realized today. It is a place where residents know and greet each other, where flowers and plant life abound and where good food is shared.” Excerpt from ‘Flavors of Fearrington’ Written by the Fearrington Residents for the Fearrington Cares Cookbook

With over 70 special interest groups available, ranging from bird watching to bridge, residents frequently meet to enjoy their preferred activity with neighbors. The list of groups and activities continues to grow at Fearrington to reflect the huge diversity of residents' interests and hobbies. The relaxed pace of life and strong sense of community at Fearrington have been central to the area's development as it has continued to grow over the last 30 years.

What our homeowners have to say about living at Fearrington:
"We had planned to visit various parts of the country prior to retirement - our first and last visit was Fearrington.  We were immediately struck by the beauty of the village, its carefully conceived architecture, and its commitment to open green spaces. This was further enhanced with a village center that conveniently meets so many needs, especially an independent book store.

Our instincts have been proven correct over and over again - and in ways we could not possibly have anticipated: the amazing array of educational, cultural and entertainment opportunities in the Triangle, the exceptional quality of medical care, the natural beauty of this area's topography, and, perhaps most important, the wonderfully welcoming, engaged and interesting people who now happily call Fearrington home."

- Fearrington Residents Mr. & Mrs. R. Berkowitz
