Regional Weather

In Chapel Hill, we enjoy four distinct seasons without the extremes. Our spring begins in early March, summer by June 1, autumn in October, and winter in late December. With temperatures normally ranging from 22 degrees to 92 degrees, yards in the Triangle stay green year round. Spring arrives here about a month earlier than in the northern US.

Our snowfalls are more a cause for celebration than a nuisance. With very little snow removal equipment, we just stay home and enjoy the show — mother nature usually melts all traces the next day. The official average annual snowfall is 7.6 inches per year — varying from no snow at all to the highest annual snowfall on record, an unusual 25 inches in 1980.
